About the Course
English for Midwifery is a 30-hour course designed specifically for students of the Corso di Laurea in Ostetricia at the University of Padova. It is not a general English course — it is a course about how language works in midwifery, and about how the words you choose as a midwife can make a real difference to the women in your care.
We will cover:
• The language of obstetric history-taking, antenatal and postnatal care, active labour, and discharge
• Reading and writing in academic and clinical English (research papers, handover notes, referral letters)
• Communication across cultures and languages — English as a Lingua Franca, cultural humility, sensitive topics
• Vulnerable women and trauma-informed communication
• Clinical frameworks
By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate in English in a wide range of midwifery contexts — with patients, with colleagues, and in writing.
